Controlling Comfort
The underfloor method of heating needs to be controlled differently to a system heated by convection (radiators). In a radiator system, heat can be put into the radiator very quickly, therefore the control systems have been designed over the years to work with that principle. Underfloor controls though should be a little different. The floor from a cold standing start will naturally take a little longer, though has the ability to retain heat in the floor 'block' longer. Therefore we should use a control system that is designed to operate a more constant living environment with a more even heating cycle. This has been proved to be far more efficient. The programmer and remote control units allow the room thermostats to maintain their 'set' temperatures (i.e., the temperature setting the home owner has set on the room thermostat), but have the ability to set back that temperature at times when only background heating is required. The two units also can be set back to a low temperature, which is for low temperature protection, 8°C, for when the building is unoccupied.Underfloor Products
Remote Control
Description: Overrides the RF room thermostats to give basic programmed control and economy settings
4 modes – Manual/Comfort/Economy/Frost
The remote control zone switch or programmer, has the capability to control all zones to four temperature control profiles:
- Manual – effectively the programmer is turned off
- Comfort, each roomstat is allowed to operate to its set point
- Economy, the whole system switching to operate at 3.5°C less than all the thermostat's set point, offering a more economical back-ground heating
- Frost, used for when the home is unoccupied. It maintains that the temperature in each room will not fall below 8C. Used in conjunction with a boiler time switch, this control is simple and very user friendly.
